ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Prior to induction of an anesthetic, performs pre-anesthetic evaluation, review the patient's chart, relevant consultations and lab reports, and introduces him/herself to the patient and discusses any remaining patient concerns then has patient sign the anesthesia consent. 2. Planning management of induction and maintenance of anesthesia. This consultation includes selection and placement of invasive monitors, selection and performance of invasive procedure, and communicating the anesthesia plan to the surgeon. 3. Has available all equipment, monitors, and drugs required to conduct the anesthetic. Coordinates with facility surgery personnel in preparing the Operating Room (OR) for the patient. 4. Administers regional anesthetic if indicated as primary anesthetic or for post-op pain control if he/she has adequate educational background and clinical competence. 5. Maintains general anesthesia or moderate sedation appropriately. 6. Monitors the patient continuously through the anesthetic with all the appropriate monitors. 7. Alters the anesthetic plan and administration of any blood product. 8. Coordinates with the surgeon and provides him/her with information on the patient's condition continuously throughout the procedure. 9. Terminates the anesthetic at the appropriate time 10. Assists in transferring the patient to the appropriate postoperative area. Remains in attendance until appropriate verbal report and written documentation of post anesthesia condition are completed 11. Regularly attends and participates in appropriate Anesthesia Department or Ambulatory Surgery Center meetings and educational programs. 12. Assists with evaluation, control, and stocking of anesthesia-related drugs, supplies and equipment. 13. Actively participates in the department initiative to integrate anesthesia horizontally throughout MCHS. 14. Performs routine maintenance of all anesthesia equipment. 15. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position. 16. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
