The Gynecologic Health and Disease Branch in the Extramural Division at NICHD is seeking to identify candidates for a full-time position as Program Official/Medical Officer. The GHDB supports basic, translational and clinical research programs related to gynecologic health throughout the reproductive lifespan, beginning at puberty and extending through early menopause. The Branch portfolio includes studies on menstrual disorders, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic floor disorders, and chronic pelvic pain. The Branch also supports research training and career development programs for investigators interested in woman's reproductive health. More information about GHDB can be found at (https://www.nichd.nih.gov/about/org/der/branches/ghdb/Pages/overview.aspx).

The primary responsibility for this position is the role of Project Scientist for the Pelvic Floor Disorders Network (PFDN) (https://www.nichd.nih.gov/research/supported/Pages/pelvicfloor.aspx). As Project Scientist, the successful applicant will act as a critical liaison between the NICHD, clinical research sites, and the data coordinating center in support of all PFDN activities including development of research protocols, data analyses and interpretation, ongoing evaluation of objectives during the course of projects, and participation in the presentation of research results including the publication of manuscripts.

The successful applicant will also serve as a Program Official (PO) for a portfolio of extramural research grants in the assigned specialty areas to include gynecologic pain syndromes. The PO is responsible for timely administration of grant applications and funded projects and for the development of effective solutions to emerging or unforeseen challenges to program development. As part of the GHDB team, the new staff member will help to establish goals and objectives within their specific area and will contribute to the development of branch-wide research and training initiatives.

Applicants must be Board Certified obstetrician-gynecologists with training and experience in the successful design and conduct of multi-disciplinary clinical trials. Fellowship training in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery is highly desirable, but is not a requirement.

Interested applicants will need to apply through the federal government website: DH Medical Officer, GS-0602-14 FPL: GS-14 Recruit https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/436912700. The position announcement will only be available from May 2 – May 11, 2016.

This is a unique opportunity to impact the future of gynecologic health research with the aim of improving women’s health.
